New Feature: Public Project Widget
November 2nd, 2011 by Dario Solera | Filed under News.Yet another small but cool feature is now available: the Public Project Widget.
What you see below is the widget for the ScrewTurn Wiki open-source project. It’s a real, live widget that I embedded the same way you would on your website by copying and pasting a piece of HTML.
When you click it, a neat page asking users to get involved in the project is displayed.
Users are allowed to leave their email address and language knowledge. When they do so, administrators will receive an email notification with the instructions on how to either invite the user to join Amanuens, or simply to contact her directly via email.
When, how and where to put the widget is completely up to you, but we think it’s a good way to get community involvement and to get more languages for your software. This approach obviously works best with open-source software, but nothing prevents other kinds of projects to be localized by volunteers.
To get the widget for your project, use its Actions drop-down menu and select Get Widgets.

You can now also upload a logo in the project settings. This will be used in the widget, in the Get Involved page and in the dashboard as well.
Last but not least, you can select a widget between 5 different visual styles. I have to admit that we took inspiration from Stack Overflow‘s user flair widgets, and the result is pretty nice.
